About
My research examines representations of gender, sexuality, race, childhood, and youth in popular U.S. media, with a focus on girls’ media culture and constructions of girlhood. My first book is Girlhood on Disney Channel: Branding, Celebrity, and Femininity (Routledge, 2017). I am also co-editing, with Mary Celeste Kearney, the second volume of Mediated Girlhoods: New Explorations of Girls’ Media Culture (Peter Lang, forthcoming). My work has been published in Feminist Media Studies, Film, Fashion and Consumption, Journal of Children & Media, and Red Feather Journal.
You may know me as a former organizer of the Flow Conference at UT Austin, former coordinating editor of The Velvet Light Trap, or former program coordinator for UT Austin’s Humanities Media Project.
